Wells On Nut
Welcome to Wells International School – On Nut
Reflecting upon all of the year’s events that have unfolded on campus, within our community, and around this country that we all call home, I must say that I am truly thankful – not just for “surviving” and making it to the end of the year, but being able to take great strides toward achieving our goal of being a well-respected, highly-regarded member of Southeast Asia’s international school community. Like a parent whose first child is traversing through that often perilous journey toward adulthood, we have witnessed our institution survive through a number of challenges through the course of the year that will allow us to grow and, eventually, prosper as a world-class educational institution.
The much-anticipated graduation of Wells first high school senior class highlights this year of “firsts.” I am proud to say that the majority of our graduates have already made solid plans to continue their education in fields ranging from International Business to Dentistry, Advertising & Design to Ag-Economics. In fact, our graduates were accepted into universities across the globe. (Read the full story about our departing seniors.) The prospects are looking even better for our future graduates, as we already are preparing application packages for several students for early decisions to some of the top schools in the United States, including Stanford University, UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC, Northwestern, and even MIT.
Our institution also continues to rise amongst other local international schools due to notable accomplishments and advances in academics, athletics, and the arts. Capping the year were events such as the Asia Books Reader’s Theatre competition, internships for our students at Mahidol’s Science Department–where they conducted advanced scientific research to support the King’s Project on economic sufficiency–and the international World Scholar’s Cup competition. In sports, our second year as official members of TISAC saw us emerge as a major power, as we captured several basketball, football and badminton championships, often against some of the most talented teams in the conference. Even our fine arts performers continue to shine in the spotlights, with dazzling performances by our dance troupes and show choir held at major shopping malls, charity events and local hospitals. Several of our students even caught the eyes of talent scouts from Superstar Academy.
As we prepare for the coming 2010-2011 school year, we fully intend to not only maintain our standards of excellence, but also further enrich them. The expansion of the third floor will provide our students access to larger and improved fine arts and sports facilities, a hydroponics-equipped greenhouse, additional science labs, and several other improvements. Several new hires, all with Master degrees in education, will complement our already talented staff of instructors. Finally, we will hone not only our curriculum, but also our focus on philanthropy and giving back to the surrounding community. Wells is indeed on its way to changing the world, one student at a time.
